Setting Up Google Classroom

Google Classroom is a powerful tool to digitally assign resources and assignments to students.

1. Go to: classroom.google.com

1.1. Log in with @viking.k12.hi.us Email

2. Create Class

When you log in, click on the plus button in the top right corner, then click on Create class.

If you do not see the Create class option, please email: help@hilohigh.on.spiceworks.com or submit a Tech Request

3. Enter Class Details

  1. Class Name: Include details such as Period and a General Course Name
  2. Section: Use the Department
  3. Subject: Course Name
  4. Room: Classroom
  5. Create

5. Click on Settings

Click on the gear in the top right corner.

6. Edit Stream Settings

By default, students have permission to post and comment to the class stream. If you want to prevent that, change the settings to Only teachers can post or comment.

7. (Optional) Hide classroom

By default, if you post assignments, it will appear on the stream. However, if you will be posting assignments out of order, it would be best to hide the notifications.

8. Save

When you make the changes, press the Save button in the top right corner of the website.
